A WhatsApp link generated from a phone number (wa.me/<number>), the older alternative to the username link.
The phone link (wa.me/<number>) is the original format for opening a WhatsApp chat without saving the contact, used for years by businesses and websites. Unlike the username link, it exposes the phone number to whoever clicks it — so it's worth switching to a username link when number privacy matters, keeping the phone link for cases where the number is already public (e.g. a support line).
